Sage has been treasured since ancient Rome, where its name comes from the Latin salvare, "to save." A Medieval saying asked, "Why should a man die when sage grows in his garden?" Rubbed sage is gently crumbled into a soft, fluffy texture that is perfect for both tea and the kitchen.

How to Use

• Tea: Steep 1 teaspoon in hot water for 5–10 minutes. Add lemon and honey.
• Gargle: Use cooled sage tea with a pinch of salt as a soothing throat gargle or mouth rinse.
• Cooking: Season poultry, stuffing, beans, butter sauces, pasta and roasted vegetables.
• Hair rinse: Use cooled tea as a rinse, traditionally enjoyed for darker hair.
• Blends: Pair with rosemary, thyme, lemon balm or peppermint.

Good to Know

Enjoy in normal food and tea amounts. Avoid large or long-term use during pregnancy or while nursing, as sage is traditionally used to reduce milk supply.
