Motherwort is a member of the mint family whose botanical name, Leonurus cardiaca, means "lion-hearted." It has been treasured in European herbalism for centuries as an herb for mothers, women and the heart, offering comfort during emotional and hormonal transitions.

Flavor & Aroma: Very bitter and earthy. Best blended or sweetened with honey.

How to Use

• Tea: Steep 1 teaspoon in hot water for 10 minutes. Sweeten with honey.
• Blends: Pair with lemon balm, rose, hawthorn or peppermint to balance the bitterness.
• Tincture: Many prefer motherwort as a liquid extract (tincture) because of its bitter taste. Steep in alcohol or glycerin for 4–6 weeks.
• Women's blend: Combine with red raspberry leaf and nettle.

Avoid during pregnancy. Talk with your provider if you take heart medication, blood thinners or sedatives.
